The last time I picked a locksmith from the Internet I had a bad experience, the guy messed up by losing a copy of our keys, he then had to come back at 10pm that same night to change our locks just so we could fee sleep in peace! Ironic that our lock emergency was actually caused by a locksmith in the first place. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Cheers Nathan

For a 24hr locksmith bondi I recommend PJ’s bondi locksmiths. Ph: 0406 111 919 PJ’s locksmiths bondi opened my unit door and made new keys for me at 2am!

I use locksmiths often as I am a property manager, but funnily enough when I needed one I couldn’t get through to my regular guy, so for this reason I have to give PJ’s the thumbs up, happy to help a bondi local by spreading the word about his professional service, thanks PJ’s bondi locksmiths. Their number is 0406 111 919

Lost car keys… and curious how much a locksmith normally charges.?

I lost my only set of car keys so I contacted a 24 hour locksmith (it was midnight when I lost them and needed to get home) and he charged $180 to basically open the car door and make a key using the lock from my trunk… which took less than15 minutes. Was I ripped off?

Also, does anyone know how I would go about getting a genuine key (one w/ the black plastic embedded at the body of the key) and another keyless entry remote?

If it’s a recent car you’ll have to get a key from the manufacturer which is going to cost you at least a couple of hundred bucks (new cars have engine immobilisers that require a chip in the car key to be present before the car will start, it does prevent car theft very well so it’s worth it).

You’d need to contact the manufacturer of the car or the nearest dealer about getting a new key. Though you said that it works with a normal key so I don’t really see the point in getting a genuine key, it’d just be a waste of money.

I doubt you were ripped off, you did get the locksmith’s service at an awkward time anyway.

I have a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. I think the keys fell out of my purse at a friends house and the car is locked with my medicine inside it. I do have a valet key but it is not programed and I was wondering if I could use it to just open the car and not drive it or will it set the immobilizer off anyway?
Try the valet key, it should be okay. It will at the very least get you into the car, but I would avoid using it in the ignition… Just in case. If it goes into system shut down its an absolute pain to have the system reset by Volkswagen. Just get your meds, which is the more important thing… Then have Volkswagen program a new key for you. Good luck..

What kind of lock is this? Does it have a name?

I found a lock picking set which the previous owners must have left in my flat, so I thought I could try unlocking my door with it in the future and avoid paying 100 pounds ( which I had to pay for last time with a 24 hour locksmith) if I locked myself out or lost my keys.

My question is, I found this lock pick set which ill show in case you want to see it:

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=51t5op&s=7

Now this did not come with instructions and I am not sure what kind of lock I have but here is a picture:

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=5mh7c4&s=7

Can you identify the type of lock and its name? and would it be difficult to pick this lock without damaging it? Like I said I don’t have instructions so if you could explain how I would pick this specific lock I would appreciate it. But the again I can understand that explaining that would be a pain in the ass so if you aren’t bothered I am sure I can google or youtube it if you just identify the lock.

Sorry if I rambled too much, its a bad habit of mine : )

Thanks for your help!
sorry, I know this is probably not relevant. But this is the lock picking kit.

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2chq6g0&s=7

Not trying to be rude edgar but if it is illegal why is it so easy to buy a lock picking set? Why are there many videos explaining how to pick a lock? why do they suggest that you could use bobby pins, paper clips and credit cards as an alternative?

If you go on amazon there are a number of lock picking sets distributed in the DIY section and sold in many different stores. So yes using your knowledge of lock picking to break into someones house is illegal but picking your own lock to get into your property is legal since it is your property. And also, I think that I have the right to attempt opening my own door which lets me access the place I live in and pay rent for before being conned into a hundred quid. I don’t think I can go to jail for trying to get into my own property.
But thank you, If you go in the internet there are many links providing the information I need with the brand of lock I have, which has already been identified. So I think I’ll figure it out.

Take care : )

Hi, its a standard cylinder lock. There are many different manufacturers of cylinder locks including Yale, Union and others. If you are in the UK it is not illegal to own or use lock picks if you have the owners permission. However, if you were arrested for an unrelated offence & had them in your possession you may be charged with carrying with intent to comit burglary.

Lock picking is an art & takes a lot of practice. The easiest way to open this type of lock is with a “bump” key. You can research all of this on you tube.

Lost my keys in the snow 400 miles from home. A locksmith made a copy to start the car from a picture that was sent through a text message. At first the key would turn but the engine wouldn’t start. Then he used some kind of Locksmiths Reader/programmer with the key In the egnition to help start it.
Key chip reader problem on 97 Ford Fiesta?

Hi all, I’ve had this problem for some time and seem to be being passed from pillar to post. Before Christmas, the car stopped recognising my keys when starting the car.

The light next to the clock flashes with the Code 13 error which I believe is a programming fault with the key chip or the chip reader.

I’ve tried it with my two normal black keys, each with the red chip in them, and the red master key, but the same thing happens each time which leads me to believe that it is the chip Locksmiths Reader that’s causing the fault.

The other week I called my breakdown cover to have a look (I’ve been totally skint hence the time it’s taken) and first of all when the guy came round the battery had gone flat in that time, so he attached his jump start kit to the battery and, magically, the car started first time no problem.

After letting the battery charge for a bit the problem came back. He advised me that I should call a locksmith and recommended a guy to me, saying it’d just be a case of reprogramming the system. I called the reader, but as soon as I said I’m getting the problem on all keys he said it’d need to be taken to a garage.

Would anyone be able to either give me a bit more insight into this (as my car knowledge extends to turning the key and going). Like what the most likely cause of the problem is and how much it might cost for a garage to fix it? I don’t fancy being taken for a ride due to previously mentioned lack of funds! Otherwise, is there a way to get around the key chip/immobiliser completely? Since clearly the car does work when it’s not kicking in!

On a side note, the problem was intermittent originally and seemed to only occur on cold days, but then was fine on warmer days. Then winter set in and the problem hasn’t gone away (I kinda hoped it’d spring back to life now it’s getting warmer but that’s not meant to be)

Around the ign lock is a antenna coil, which is connected to the ECU.

You put the key in, and turn it. The ECU sees the key, sends out a pulse to the coil. This is then recieved by the chip reader, and induces enough current for the chip to reply with a coded signal. This is then pickd up by the coil, and fed into a comparator in the ECU. If the numbers in the ECU match the key – it will start. This is a separate circuit within the ecu, so essentially it “enables” the ECU part.

Problems can be caused by a faulty coil or contacts, so my first check would be to find the plugs – unplug them then re-connect again.
As the voltage signal is very small, it only needs a little corrosion to loose the signal or for it to be too noisy to recognise.

Another problem is interference. As it is a coil reciever – it will pick up any signals – from your phone, security system or wifi in the area. The ECU then has to filter all this stray noise to find your signal pulse. This is a very real problem with Landrovers aparently.

The ultimate solution is to buy a replacement “open” ECU. This has had the security system bypassed – so plug it in and you’re always good to go, but you loose the electronic immobiliser. Reader…

can they get me in trouble for this, or can I keep my 85$?

I locked myself out of my car at work one day and had to call a locksmith, was charged 85$ (it was normal hours and not far away)!!!! The dude ran my debit card but he said his card reader was broken so he wrote down my card info, saying that the money would be taken out of my account the next day. The next morning the locksmith calls and says they need the security code and expiration date of my card, at the time I didn’t have my card with me so a few days went by. They called again.

I am short of money right now and I know that the right thing to do would be to pay them but I was just wondering, if they don’t have that info, is there any way I can get in trouble for not paying them? It seems like an error on their part to me and I was uncomfortable with them writing down my card info, unprofessional.

They performed a service for you, for which you still haven’t paid them. It is illegal for you not to pay for it, despite how “professional” the transaction was on their part.

Think about it this way — If they didn’t even accept credit cards, you would have had to find some other way to pay for it, like cash or a check. You can’t call up a locksmith, have him unlock your car, and then tell him you don’t have any way to pay for it. Does that make sense?

Programming Keys for Toyota Corolla 07?

Hello everyone, I wanted to find out some information. I purchased a transponder 4D key for my corolla 2007 and I checked it on a key reader from my friend to check if its a 4D key and it was. I went to a locksmith and they told me that the key might not work if its not the correct chip. I was told that there are 3-4 different types of 4D transponder chips. I was wondering if that was true? or were they just trying to make me buy their key? I also was wondering has never ever programmed a key to their Corolla 2007 and if so did you need a pin code? Also, is there a programming procedure to program the key? Thank you.

I have a 1992 Mazda Miata. Recently, the key broke off in the ignition.
Hey, if he ends up figuring out a way to do it, more power to him. Be sure to tell him up front, that you’re not going to pay him until you have the set of keys that both work to start the car.

Dealers and mechanics are not interested in programming small electronics like keys or radios, they would rather just replace whole unit rather then saving them.

Newcastle Locksmiths actually just do locks day in and day out, and automotive keying and locks are a big part of their business.

It is very possible that they can do the job and/or have paid subscriptions to access car manufacturers’ key code databases as security professionals.

There is no salary for self employment. You are obviously a long time employee and that mentality will have to change. Early years in small business ownership is usually feast or famine, and frequently famine. The risk you take is in direct proportion to your potential reward. You will need to erase salary from your vocabulary. You could earn $100/week, $1000/week, $1000/day, or lose your house, cars, and retirement. It depends on you.

Need a Mobile Woolsington Locksmith Phone 01914 018247

One of the most inconvenient events that can occur is getting locked out of your vehicle, home, or office. Not only is it somewhat embarrassing, it can make you late for an important appointment, cause you to lose a business contract, or leave your child standing in the rain waiting for you to pick him or her up! When you find yourself in need of a mobile Woolsington locksmith, you may not have any idea which Woolsington locksmith is the best choice. A mobile Woolsington locksmith is the fastest way to get your lock problem taken care of and it is probably less expensive than you might think.

The first thing to consider when calling a locksmith Woolsington is how far away the service vehicle is located. You don’t want to wait hours for the Woolsington locksmith to arrive. A good response time is within an hour of your call.

If you call a Mobile Woolsington Locksmith and you’re told to wait more than that, it is time to call another Woolsington locksmith.

The second tip for choosing a mobile Woolsington locksmith is to see what types of services are offered by the company. Some companies only provide services for vehicles, while others may provide full lock and safe services. You will need to provide information about what services you may need, such as the year, make, and model of your car. In some cases, the Woolsington locksmith technician may have to replace the lock.

The third tip when choosing a Mobile Woolsington Locksmith is to get an estimate of how much it will cost on the phone.

Do not wait until the mobile Woolsington locksmith arrives at your location to ask how much it will cost. If you have chosen a less than reputable mobile Woolsington locksmith, you’ll quickly find that they will charge you more than you expected.

You should look for a locksmith Woolsington that displays the Master Locksmith Association symbol. This association grants membership to locksmiths that have the proper training and credentials so that consumers can feel confident in using their services. The emblem or logo is often portrayed on adverts for the company. If you don’t see it, then ask if the company is a member of the MLA.

While most people don’t think about a Woolsington locksmith until they need one, it is best to find one that you trust before you need to make that call. Ask around to your family and friends and see which locksmith Woolsington they recommend. They may have used the same mobile Woolsington locksmith for years and with excellent results. You can also call a few companies out of the telephone book or check online. Most Woolsington locksmith companies now have their own websites. Some even advertise their rates for their services.

Your choice of mobile Woolsington locksmith is an important one. There are some companies that are not reputable. You want a Woolsington locksmith that is reliable, trustworthy, and dedicated to providing their clients with terrific customer service. In order to find such a locksmith Woolsington, you should check out some of the online reviews of locksmith Woolsington companies in your area. You can learn a lot about how a company operates by reading some of the reviews left by previous customers. If several of the reviews are negative, then you may want to choose another company.

In closing, when you find yourself locked out of your auto, home, or office, a locksmith Woolsington is the answer you need to get on with your day. With the right company, the process should be simple, quick, and relatively inexpensive. Finding the a great locksmith Woolsington company before you need on is your best bet, but you can also have good luck simply calling a mobile Woolsington locksmith out of the phonebook if you use the above tips.
